It’s Happened Again!

It happened with my daughter when she was about half-way through first grade, and it’s just this week happened with my son – he READ ME A BOOK!!! Actually, he’s read me two by now. The first was Curious George, and the second was There’s A Nightmare in My Closet. Words cannot express how exciting it is. The best part is seeing him come to a slightly more difficult word (“decided,” for example) and watching the wheels turning. Staggeringly amazing.
We are half-way through A Horse and His Boy, the fifth in the Chronicles of Narnia. He has maintained an interest in the series, long after his sister got bored with it.

Thankfully school starts again tomorrow. Nine more weeks, then five weeks of summer vacation. They are both going to camp at various times – I wonder whether we were clever enough to schedule them to be away at the same time? I guess it’s time for me to look at all the material the camp has sent. Probably need to start buying sunscreen and bug spray and the like. Sigh.

Turning into a Luddite

This is terrible – here I have this shiny new web site, and I’ve done so very little with it. I’m going to post every day this week, let’s see how that works. Today was the final concert of the Nova Singers season. They, along with a few extra singers and a small chamber orchestra, did Bach’s St. John’s Passion. It was STUPENDOUS. There were four soloists, but as far as I am concerned the standout was the unfortunately-named Christopher Cock as the Evangelist, sort of the narrator. It’s so nice to have a group like Nova in the area. One of my secret fantasies, the kind you hold in your mind as you drift off to sleep, is that I belong to the Nova Singers. Shhhh….
