Parent-Teacher Conferences (gulp)

My daughter is very verbal and hates math; my son is the King of Math (the gifted program looms come third grade [yippee!!!!]).

It is extremely disappointing to me that my daughter isn’t more interested in school. I need to find a way to cope with this; so far I’m not doing a very good job.

More Complications

For no reason that I can adequately explain, I have just created a Flickr account:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoyameb

I have scads of family photos I have scanned over the past few years, I think I will put them here. And of course, the Brick Cozy. Maybe I will even photograph the contents of my shoulder bag, like these people did:

Flickr tag: Whatsinmybag

and get in on all this postmodern geekitude. Woo-hah.

Now that the quarter is almost over (!), here are a few pix of the first day of school, waaaaay back in July:

Three weeks of babysitting nightmare approaches. Sigh.

Lincoln Museum – Springfield IL

This was taken in the main area of the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL, on July 9. I never did finish my rant about that place, did I. Got to do that…

Birthday Party

Doing a bit of catching up here, this was (gulp) a month ago!

The municipal pool got a huge makeover a few years ago and is a tremendous place now – love love love those waterslides! Nice place for a party too.

How Much?

How much money has George W Bush contributed to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. I’d like to know. Wouldn’t you?

Curious George

We were reading “Curious George goes to the Hospital,” wherein CG has to get an X-ray. I just noticed today for the first time that the (male) doctor performing the X-ray and the Man in the Yellow Hat both get lead aprons, but not the (female) nurse who is also present. What’s with that, I ask indignantly?

Pod People, More Pod People

My boss has just called three times in the past seven minutes; she finally has a few free hours to sit down and start playing with her new iPod. I predict a sleepless night spent ripping CDs to her computer’s hard drive. I am greatly amused.

“Sky High”

We went to see “Sky High” yesterday. It was OK. That sounds unenthusiastic, doesn’t it? It really was rather cute, and the bad guys weren’t gratuitously bad, which always annoys me. I think Lynda Carter had fun playing the principal.
