HIGH SPEED, BABY!

We finally have broadband (DSL, through SBC-Yahoo). It so totally rocks. Best of all? Wireless card for the husband’s laptop, so we can both surf at the same time. It simply does not get cooler.

Canvassing in Iowa

Well. Today I went over to Davenport for the first time to work at the Democratic HQ. I ended up, after a bit of milling around (it was *quite* busy, hee) going to a neighborhood north of the county fairgrounds, to knock on the doors of known Kerry supporters and encourage them actually to get out and vote on Tuesday, help them turn in their absentee ballots (we could call licensed/registered couriers to fetch them, how cool is that?), remind them where their polling place is, etc. I was with a guy who drove down from Chicago, and a woman from Bettendorf. The Chicago guy was very intense. He is convinced Iowa is the key, and Scott Co. is the key to Iowa. So he was a man with a mission: “I’ve never felt like I’ve done anything that could literally change history, until today.” The other woman and I were somewhat more laid back.

PERCUSSION!

The boy and I went to a *concert* by some group called Recycled Percussion. I thought he’d like it because the advertising mentioned garbage cans, power tools, etc. It was more “rock concert”y that I thought it would be, and we almost gave up during the warmup (one of the group members doing the turntable thing), but we persevered and had a good time, until someone’s eyelids started to droop (the ability to sleep in such an environment is AMAZING!). So now, we have to look in dumpsters for old garbage cans, so we can have a rock band in the basement. Hooray. (what was I thinking?!?!)

Oops

I sort of kind of dared my boss to find my blog, since I don’t generally advertise its location (I like my audience of, what is it – two? three? Hi James!). Foolishly, as it turns, out, I neglected to take into account the AWESOME POWER THAT IS GOOGLE. What I was thinking, I just don’t know.

Hi, boss!

Ow Ow Ow…

We (yes, the entire family, all four of us) did the CROP Walk today – six miles through downtown Rock Island and downtown Davenport, with the scenic Centennial Bridge in the middle. Oh do my feet hurt. But I got almost $200 in pledges. The kidlets made it in fairly good shape too, although there was a wagon being towed just in case. Charles got to carry the boy on his shoulders across the bridge, lucky him!

Pay More For Less

I bought some more coffee filters the other day. This particular store had both the bleached and non-bleached filters, with the chi-chi more environmentally-friendly non-bleached filters costing more. I bought them anyway, I’ve never really noticed a difference in the taste. But then I wondered – if the non-bleached ones involve LESS work/material (bleach plus effort expended to bleach), why do they cost MORE? Man, that’s annoying. Guess I need to fire off a letter to Melitta.

That always bugged me about on-line banking, bill-paying, car registration, and so on as well – why am *I* paying a FEE to save THEIR labor? They should be giving me a discount on something if I’m taking their personnel out of the loop.

Well anyway. There is my rant of the day.

On a happier note, I now have Obama and Lane Evans signs in my yard – Melissa, I have an extra Evans, do you think your brother would want it? Hey, maybe I’ll CALL HIM TO ASK – what a concept…
