You know where to find them – a birthday party, an excursion to RibFest today (more bouncy things!) and a strangely empty building.
The astronomy department at the community college that employs me set up telescopes last night on the roof. Scads of people came to see MARS! It was SO COOL! You could actually see a large round disk instead of a little dot. Although I must say, you could see the little red dot with the unaided eye as well. Even that was neato. Can you believe it, not in tens of thousands of years has it been so bright, and won’t be again for at least 200 more years (I want to know, why the big discrepancy there…)
I made some of this stuff yesterday, sort of spur-of-the-moment (e.g., substituted wheat germ for mashed-up bits of All-Bran cereal). I know people who eat flaxseed every day to help keep cholesterol low, but it appears to have other benefits as well. I will practice making this a few more times, and see what happens (SOMEONE, who should have been paying attention to the timer instead of his computer game, let my first attempt burn a little bit. It still tastes OK, but doubtless could be better…)
This recipe is from www.dakotaflax.com, by the way.
I made Teriyaki Salmon yesterday for supper. It was fairly good. Plus, it took all of 13 minutes to prepare, gotta love those broilers. Salmon, a big old bowl of rice, and salad. Yum. I must say the salmon required a few ingredients that I don’t normally have on hand (wasabi, sake), but every once in a while, you have to whoop it up I say.
It must be the Age of Aquarius or something. Look out, the Rapture can’t be far behind, whoo-doggie. I hope you are sitting down. My computer lab is getting

I believe I saw padding peeking out from under some of it, as well. Shock all ’round, let me tell you.
I guess it’s not enough that my cousin’s mom discovers that she’s got pancreatic cancer. Oh no. Now I learn that my daughter’s teacher (her most excellent teacher, in her LAST YEAR before well-deserved retirement!) has developed ovarian cancer. She’s having surgery today. So, like my friend Melissa said recently:
FUCK YOU, CANCER!
Think good thoughts for both ladies please.
The party was groovy. It was hot as heck, but we had enough water/pop/KoolAid on hand to ensure that no one passed out, although one little kidlet did get awfully red. The parents all thought the jumpy thing was the greatest idea since toast, and so did the kids (it was HUGE! All 7 guests plus the birthday girl, brother and cousin could bounce AT THE SAME TIME! Our yard could barely contain it!). Little brother got to invite a few of his buds over after the main festivities, so he was happy too. Grandparents and a Great-Aunt were there, and were tremendousely helpful. All in all things could have been much MUCH worse! Hey, the Cubs won too! Whoo-hoo! (Pictures soon)
…until the Birthday Party starts. I hate mopping. But mop I must. And obtain appropriate decorations. Etc. Target here I come… (I love that store!)
I tried to install mySQL on my Linux computer recently. As usual, the installation of the files themselves went OK, but I am now flailing about in the morass that is Linux configuration. Arg. Am I root – did I chgrp? – is the config file in the proper /etc/rc.? subdirectory? – etc etc etc. Don’t you feel sorry for me? At least all this software is free…
