Liaden

I’ve been reading these Liaden books, finally. They’ve been mentioned time and again on the Bujold mailing list, on which I lurk (great list, by the way). I’m trying to decide whether I like them. I think on balance I do (why else would I be searching overstock.com for the series titles?) but boy some stuff is annoying. Someone always turns out to be a wizard right when it’s most convenient (there are short stories concerning some of these characters, stories that I haven’t read, so this is possibly unfair) and there isn’t nearly enough of Mr. dea’Gauss in the books either! Krakatoa

I just read* a book all about the eruption/explosion of the volcano Krakatoa, in the Dutch East Indies. Wow. One gruesome tidbit – boats sailing in the area shortly after the cataclysm often found themselves floating through shoals of human bones, scrubbed clean in the water by the tons and tons of pumice thrown up in the air by the volcano. The explosion could be heard 2,900 miles away. Can you even imagine.

Title: Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883
